In Simply Because We are Human, A Memoir, by K.J. Joseph, the author turns her soul inside out like a hooded sweatshirt dusting out every corner of pocket lint to expose what insight she has to offer on her life from age eight to present, living with clinical depression. Simply Because We Are Human, is not a brand-new story, but in fact a story that is quite common and relatable. It is a story that needs to be told and not hidden behind ashamed eyes or limited to the whispers behind closed doors.  Most importantly K.J. Joseph’s story is a reminder that although no two stories or treatments are the same, nobody is alone when it comes to mental illness. Everyone at some point has the brave choice to ask for help.

In The Press

"Simply Because We Are Human is a collection of the writer's honest interactions with mental illness.  The descriptive, poetic memories and vignettes trace her understanding, acceptance, and the barriers she tried to run away from.  Her story is both common and exceptional, and dares to expose her journey to mental health wide open to the light"
