Jesus Land, A Must-See Film
By Kristine Joseph | September 19, 2026
A film based on Julia Scheeres’s New York Times-bestselling memoir, “Jesus Land” which focuses on her relationship with her adopted Black brother David, the challenges they face as teenagers growing up in rural Indiana in the 1980s and their experiences when sent away to a Christian reform school in the Dominican Republic.
Yes, this story touches on Christianity, but it is about so much more.
Director Saila Kariat’s ability to present difficult topics to her audience on screen in a nonjudgemental and relatable way creates a safe headspace for one to question and discover that not all things in the world are represented accurately. This not only sets a platform to get important conversations going, but it presents an opportunity for the world to change things for the better one conversation at a time.
Jesus Land premeirs fall 2026.
